Not the cheese board at a club social, but the much delayed trip to the “West Country” to ride select roads from the Tour of Wessex, including the iconic Cheddar Gorge.
Walton Velo Tour the West Country.
The Tour of Wessex is billed as the “biggest multi stage cyclo-sportive in the world” – with around 2,000 riders tackling over 500km’s of quintessential English countryside, monuments and history over 3 one-day stages.
The challenging terrain includes truly classic climbs such Cheddar Gorge, King Alfreds Tower, Lulworth Ranges, Quantock Common and Porlock Toll Road. Unfortunately it’s cancelled for 2020!
But fear not, we plan to ride our own interpretation of the Tour’s best roads, as a single ‘day out’ to avoid the challenge of finding accommodation. Travel time will be approximately 2 hours each way, with approximately 6 hours of riding, meaning a reasonably early start and a return to Weybridge by early evening.
Dates to be decided, but likely to be mid-August or early September. Look out for the event posting shortly.
